Sustainability & Ethics
Our Mission
At Betty Berry, our mission is to build a slow fashion brand that offers a sustainable alternative for people of all different sizes, ages, genders and walks of life.
We offer both vintage and our own Betty Berry Creations label for a wide range of options.
Vintage
The best way to shop sustainably is to shop second hand. Our curated vintage collections aim to reduce the demand for new resources and prevent these one-off gems from ending up in landfill. Our Wear & Care collection offers vintage pieces we’ve found to have minor imperfections. We sell them at a discounted price of £15 and under with the aim of giving them new life and avoiding waste.Creations
However, because our vintage pieces are one-offs, not everyone can find the right fit. This led us to create our own size-inclusive line. Inspired by the vintage pieces we find, our creations are ethically brought to life using sustainable materials. This allows us to create styles that suit a wide range of people, while still aligning with our environmental values.
Our Principles
🌱 Sustainable Materials
Organic cotton, Ecovero™, corozo—all carefully chosen to reduce impact.
🧵 Slow Design
Only 2-4 new designs per year. Each product is made to last, with a timeless design and high-quality manufacturing.
🏭 Responsible Sourcing
Our creations are made in Portugal and our vintage is sourced from UK & Italy—close to home, reducing emissions.
🚚 Low-Impact Delivery
Minimal air freight, with plastic-free and fully recyclable packaging.
♻️ Minimising Waste
Small production runs and second hand options through our Vintage and Wear & Care ranges.
Our Practices
The creations in the Betty Berry label are designed by us, Danielle & Nicole. We then work with independent artists and designers to bring these ideas to life.
We use only sustainable materials like organic cotton, Ecovero™ and Corozo for our buttons. Our designs focus on longevity and seasonless wear, helping to reduce waste and promote conscious consumption.
All our own-brand Creations are vegan-friendly.
Our vintage range is hand-picked by us through video calls from family run wholesalers in Italy and the UK. All own-brand items are made in Portugal with partners who share our values.
We only work with manufacturers who are GOTS certified, ensuring the products are manufactured and processed in an environmentally and socially responsible way, using organic fibres. Our suppliers in Portugal have various certifications to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable and ethical manufacturing, including:
Certification | What it means |
GOTS | Global Organic Textile Standard – ensures organic status of textiles and social/environmental responsibility through the supply chain. |
OEKO TEX | Certified free from harmful substances – ensures textiles are tested for safety and human ecological impact. |
BSCI | Business Social Compliance Initiative – supports better working conditions and fair labour practices in global supply chains. |
Being based in Portugal, all our partners adhere strictly to EU guidelines on working hours and annual leave, and have the highest standard of worker protections. Ethical manufacturing means looking after everyone in the supply chain - from the workers producing the garments to the customers receiving them.
Every delivery we send out is in 100% fully recyclable packaging. We carefully package your items in recyclable, biodegradable brown paper using eco-friendly tape. The attached shipping labels are also biodegradable and recyclable. So after you receive your clothes you can make sure nothing ends up in landfill.
To reduce emissions, we avoid air shipping wherever possible. When we source our products from Portugal and Italy, all bulk shipments are done by road or rail transport rather than air freight, as are all Betty Berry deliveries to the UK and Europe. Packages sent to customers worldwide may use air transport, and we are looking into options to offset any carbon impact this has.
We produce our own label in small batches and repair damaged vintage items for resale. We also encourage repair or up-cycling of the discounted pieces sold in our Wear & Care range. Our second-hand ranges give clothes a second life, reducing what goes to landfill.
We’re working on offsetting emissions and always open to feedback. We know that there’s always more work to do towards sustainability and that no business is ever perfect, but we will keep striving to improve.
Sustainability is a journey, and we’re here to grow responsibly.
We’re always looking to do better. Got ideas or feedback? We'd love to hear from you via the chat or contact form below.
